The Boston Chapter Mountaineering Committee offers a complete schedule of events every year to help connect our climbing community. Come and join us for a night of climbing at one of the many local gyms, participate in one (or both) of our outstanding instructional programs, or sign up for a weekend of choose-your-own-adventure at some of the Northeast’s most popular outdoor climbing destinations.

Gym Sessions

Crag Days

Crag Days are a great way to get out and enjoy a taste of climbing. We often set up Crag Days at popular locations in the Greater Boston area, such as Quincy Quarries and Waitts Mountain. Adventure Weekends

We host weekends throughout the year at locations such as the Harvard Low Cabin in Jackson, New Hampshire, Acadia National Park, the Gunks, and more. We take care of all the logistics in order to provide our community with a low-cost base of operations for adventures. Rock Program

The AMC Boston Mountaineering Committee’s annual Rock Program teaches basic outdoor climbing skills. Graduates will learn the techniques needed to help them safely follow a leader on a multi-pitch climb. No prior climbing experience is required! Learn More >

Crag Day: Crow Hill Climbing and Potluck

Spend a fun day climbing at a local crag to celebrate the conclusion of the AMC Boston Rock Program. Learn More >

Community Weekend: New Seconds

Each May, we go to the Mohonk Preserve (aka, “The Gunks”), near New Paltz, NY,  for a weekend of climbing with the new graduates from the Rock Program and friends from the AMC Boston climbing community. Learn More >

Our annual trip to Acadia, Maine usually takes place over Memorial Day weekend and involves climbing at some of New England’s most scenic, coastal crags. Learn More >

Community Weekend: Fall Frolic

Every fall, typically in October, we return to the Mohonk Preserve for a weekend of climbing the cliffs of The Gunks, surrounded by gorgeous fall foliage. If you’ve never climbed at The Gunks in the Fall, you’re missing out! Learn More >

Holiday Party

Our annual Holiday Party happens each December and provides a rare occasion to celebrate with fellow climbers sans harness. Join us for food, drinks, stories, and an all-around great time with a great group of people. Learn More >

Ice Program

Held in January, but set down here at the end of the schedule, our annual Ice Program complements our Rock Program and introduces climbers to the exciting sport of ice climbing in the White Mountain National Forest.
