The Boston Mountaineering Committee’s annual Rock Climbing Program runs from late March through early May and is geared towards those with little or no outdoor rock climbing experience.
We teach the basic skills to climb safely: toprope anchor building, belaying, ascending, and rappelling. The emphasis of the course is learning to safely follow a leader on multipitch trad climbs, but the skills will also serve you well for sport climbing and toprope climbing. You will learn from our experienced volunteer instructors and meet other aspiring and enthusiastic rock climbers!
We will hold an Informational meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the AMC's Cabot Auditorium at 4 Joy Street, Boston at 7:00 PM. (Directions) This meeting is not required, but it is a good chance to learn more about the program and ask any questions you may have. Online registration will open after the informational meeting.
The program consists of one session at the AMC's Cabot Auditorium on Wednesday April 1, 2015, from 7-9pm, followed by four program weekends held in the Blue Hills Reservation just south of Boston. The first weekend, Belay and Anchors weekend, requires attending both Saturday and Sunday. For the remaining program weekends (Rappel, Ascend, and Graduation weekends), only one day (Saturday or Sunday) is required; you may choose which day to attend. See the schedule for the dates of the program weekends.
The cost of the program has not been set for 2015. In 2014, it was $165 for AMC members and $205 for non-members.
